Grandma's Seaside House

Grandma's Seaside House is one of the few original railway carriage holiday homes that have been preserved intact along Pagham Beach. Three of the bedrooms, the sitting room and the kitchen are in carriages, with their curved ceilings, rows of windows and sliding door-windows with leather straps. Kids are always thrilled with their little railway carriage bedroom!

There's an open, light porch all along the beach side with dining table looking out to sea, it's lovely sitting there even if it's pouring with rain outside. Outside, there's a sheltered, sunny terrace right on the beach with a large table. Apart from the beach on the doorstep there's also a totally enclosed, fenced garden all round the house which is great for kids, and a big front lawn.

The house can sleep up to 6 people: there are two double bedrooms (one with a standard double bed, one small double) and a twin room (two 2'6"/75cm 'small singles').  A travel cot or toddler bed can be provided for smaller guests.

The house is full of character, well loved and in some places quite well worn, though it's comfortable and well equipped - but if you're looking for something slick or modern it's not for you! The rooms are cosy, with room sizes limited by the width of the original Victorian railway carriages. The bathroom is basic (electric shower over the bath; immersion heater which will do one bath at a time) with quite a low ceiling so six-footers might have to duck a bit in the shower. The kitchen is well equipped but not luxurious - no dishwasher or fancy gadgets.  There's a washing machine but no dryer.

The house is all on one level and surrounded on all sides by an enclosed garden.  There's lots of room for parking up to about three cars.  The road is a dead end with a 10mph speed limit so very quiet and safe - with no passing traffic other than locals and neighbours - but it is an unmade road which is bumpy and can be prone to potholes.

Please note before booking: no smoking; no parties, no pets.
